Occupational Therapist
Are you an Occupational Therapist looking for something a little different, with the ability to work from home and have more control of your time and work balance? Humanworks is currently seeking an Occupational Therapist with a background in vocational rehabilitation, disability management, case management, or community mental health, to join our team of highly skilled rehabilitation professionals.
This full-time/part-time position involves working with teachers through the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) Health and Wellness Program, in order to support teachers, liaise with key stakeholders, and assist with return to work and accommodation processes. In this job no two days are the same, and you get to support and advocate for teachers who present with challenges across the disability spectrum.

Position Details:
Region
We are currently seeking an Occupational Therapist specifically for our Southern Vancouver Island region.

Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive intake assessments of client presentation; functional, psychosocial, mental health and employment barriers; return to work potential, accommodation needs, wellness and teaching goals, etc.
Manage a diverse caseload of up to 25 teachers, with a variety of health-related challenges
Liaise with union representatives and employer groups to negotiate safe and durable return to work plans
Collaborate with various stakeholders, including primary care physicians and health care professionals, to develop customized treatment plans to improve health and wellness
Facilitate referrals to medically-endorsed treatment services and providers
Develop sustainable return to work plans
Attend meetings with various stakeholders in-person or virtually
Conduct ergonomic assessments to address pacing, positioning, and equipment needs in the classroom
Complete comprehensive reports to inform teacher direction and wellness planning
Qualifications
A Bachelor or Master degree in Occupational Therapy
Current member of CAOT/CHCPBC or eligible for registration
Some mental health experience is helpful, but not mandatory, if you have worked in settings with a diverse client base
Although we are ideally seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist, new occupational therapy graduates are encouraged to apply if Humanworks feels like a place where you would like to build your career as an Occupational Therapist
Skills and Requirements
We are not based out of a clinic or office, so need to be self-motivated, and have the ability to structure your own time and priorities
Report writing is part of this job, so your writing skills need to be strong and professional
We are often the voice for our clients, and the bridge to their union reps, employers, and medical/ rehabilitation supports. Being able to effectively communicate with various stakeholders, and advocate on behalf of the teacher, is a must
Valid driver’s license, your own vehicle, and ability to travel within the Greater Victoria area (Victoria, Sooke, Saanich)
Functioning home-based office space
Much of our work involves technology. We use electronic billing and charting programs, and much of the work is on Zoom. This might not be your strength today, but we look for people who have an openness to learning and training in new technologies
This job involves work with teachers, and requires patience to build a working knowledge of the education system, terminology, and teacher challenges and needs
